Win a copy of BRAM STOKER’S DRACULA on Blu-ray from SHOCK.
I took my kids to see HOTEL TRANSYLVANIA 2 over the weekend and, near the end, one character shows up to a vampire’s birthday party dressed as Gary Oldman’s aged Dracula from Francis Ford Coppola’s 1992 adaptation, BRAM STOKER’S DRACULA, complete with wildly woven white hair bunned up on his head. Mel Brooks, voicing the dreaded Vlad, King of the Vampires, pops in, sizes up the reveler and remarks in his best Yiddish accent, ” Oy! What you got on your head? It looks like my Grandma’s boobies!”
I laughed.
Because yes, I thought the hairdo Oldman sports during the first reel of Coppola’s film was ridiculous then and I think it’s ridiculous now. But Dracu-do aside, there’s no mistaking that BRAM STOKER’S DRACULA (although not as faithful an adaptation as its title suggests) is one of the most lavish, imaginative, ambitious and important Dracula films ever made.
It’s also, one of the most beautiful to behold.
Said beauty is amplified considerably on Sony’s new High-Def Blu-ray edition, with popping colors, rich tones and crisp lines that make each and every sequence in the film feel like moving paintings brought to life by blood and the power of Sadie Frost‘s heaving undead bosom.
SHOCK has a stack of this extras-packed release and we want to share the spoils with you, our charming, refined readers.
