Theres just over six months to go before The X-Files returns to television with its first new episodes in thirteen years. Officially announced back in March, six new episodes of hit series are on their way to FOX beginning Sunday, January 24, 2016. David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson are returning as Fox Mulder and Dana Scully with plenty of planned guest stars as well. An update today has The Hollywood Reporter bringing word that both Lauren Ambrose (Six Feet Under) and Robbie Amell (The Flash) will guest star in the fourth new episode as FBI Agents Einstein and Miller, respectively.
Kumail Nanjiani, the Silicon Valley star also well known for his The X-Files Files podcast, also revealed over the weekend that hes set to appear in the new seasons third episode. According to TV Line, that episode, written and directed by Darin Morgan, is titled Mulder and Scully Meet the Were-Monster. As X-Philes well know, Morgan has a particular penchant for comedic episodes, delivering classics like the Rashomon-inspired Jose Chungs From Outer Space’ and the War of the Worlds influenced War of the Coprophages. Other guest stars for the new episodes include Annet Mahendru (“The Americans”) and Joel McHale (Community) while it has been confirmed that Mitch Pileggi will also be returning as Walter Skinner with William B. Davis will be back as the Cigarette-Smoking Man.
The X-Files originally premiered in September 1993. Over the course of its nine-season run, the influential series went from breakout sci-fi favorite to massive global hit, and became one of the most successful television dramas of all time. The show, which earned 16 Emmy Awards, five Golden Globes and a Peabody Award, follows FBI special agents Scully (Anderson) and Mulder (Duchovny) as they investigate unexplained cases X-Files for which the only answers involve paranormal phenomena.
