J.K. Simmons Joins Legendary’s Kong: Skull Island

Just days following its release shift, the upcoming Legendary and Universal-backed Kong: Skull Island has seen its second major cast member revealed.

Deadline is reporting J.K. Simmons, of this year’s fantastic (Blumhouse produced) jazz psychodrama Whiplash (pictured above), will join Tom Hiddleston in the film, to be directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts (The Kings of Summer). Said to be in the spirit of their Godzilla film from last spring, Kong: Skull Island will “will fully immerse audiences in the mysterious and dangerous home of the king of the apes as a team of explorers ventures deep inside the treacherous, primordial island.”

Simmons is perhaps best known as J. Jonah Jameson in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy, but has enjoyed a long, prolific career as a character actor in the likes of HBO’s prison drama Oz and Juno. He can currently be seen in the aforementioned Whiplash, where he’s tremendous (and likely as monstrous as Kong) as a vicious, maniacal instructor at a music conservatory. No word on the details of his role in Skull Island yet.

Kong: Skull Island is set for a March 10, 2017 release.
