Netflix Horrors: Recommends & the Latest Titles Added to Instant 10/8

“Netflix Horrors” is a regular column in which Shock Till You Drop alerts you to the latest genre titles to hit the VOD service. Since we’re in October, I wanted to regularly stay on top of this column, so you’re “in the know” and you don’t miss a thing during the busiest month of the year for horror fans. Let’s get started…

  • The Following: Season 2 – A pass from me merely because I lost interest a few episodes in and got tired of the silliness this show stumbled into. But, if you want to see Kevin Bacon chase down a serial killer who – along with a few of his “followers” – have been kidnapped by a rival cut, by all means…get excited!
  • Supernatural: Season 9 – I told you about this one a couple of weeks back. Well, it is now available!
  • Big Ass Spider! – A fun, tongue-in-cheek creature feature from Gravedancers director Mike Mendez. A giant alien spider escapes from a military lab and rampage the city of Los Angeles. When a massive military strike fails, it is up to a team of scientists and one clever exterminator to kill the creature before the city is destroyed.
  • Carrie – The remake starring Chloe Grace Moretz and Julianne Moore. I might have been a bit too kind to this film when it was first released (I think I was just feeling generous). Upon a recent revisit, I recommend you avoid and just turn to Brian De Palma’s superior take on the Stephen King material.
  • The Town That Dreaded Sundown – Charles B. Pierce’s film is an odd little film, but definitely worth a look. Definitely do yourself a favor and watch it if you intend to see the redo that arrives on October 17th. In the film, a Texas Ranger hunts for a hooded serial killer terrorizing the residents of a small town, set in 1946 Arkansas. Loosely based on a true story.
