Last week, we got an interesting teaser from comic publisher Boom! Studios about an upcoming series based on John Carpenter’s film Big Trouble in Little China. A few more details, and preview art, for the series have made their way online which you can check out after the jump.
Set to be written by Eric Powell of “The Goon” fame, who already has the first eight issues planned, with art by Brian Churilla. The series will pick up right where the film left off, still set in the world of Carpenter’s 1986 film, so don’t expect to see Jack Burton using a cell phone.
“Jack definitely has the lead role of the comic,” Powell said in an interview with CBR. “Not sure I’d call him a hero.”
Don’t worry though, Jack won’t be alone, many of the other characters from the film will also be appearing in the series.
“Egg plays a major role. So does a character from the film that I think will surprise some people. We’ve also have a few new characters who pop up and aren’t happy with ol’ Jack.”
If a continuation adventures of Jack Burton wasn’t exciting enough for you, the fact that creator John Carpenter is working hand in hand with Powell on bringing the series to life should be!
“I don’t get star struck by people for the most part — but ‘Escape From New York,’ ‘The Thing,’ ‘Halloween,’ ‘Starman’ and so on — he made some of my favorite movies that I grew up on. It was really awesome getting to discuss the book and characters with him in that first meeting. To say we were on the same page with what the book should be would be an understatement.”
Big Trouble in Little China #1 will hit stores on June 4. Take a peek at the covers for the series by Powell, Joe Quinones, Chris Weston and Terry Dodson below!
