Naturally, no one knew what to make of this initial report when it hit the web.
Twitter and Facebook lit up with links to hoax stories. Unfortunately, his reps have stepped forward to confirm Walker has passed away.
Here is what they wrote:
It is with a truly heavy heart that we must confirm that Paul Walker passed away today in a tragic car accident while attending a charity event for his organization Reach Out Worldwide. He was a passenger in a friend’s car, in which both lost their lives. We appreciate your patience as we too are stunned and saddened beyond belief by this news. Thank you for keeping his family and friends in your prayers during this very difficult time. We will do our best to keep you apprised on where to send condolences.
Although best known for the aforementioned Fast & Furious series (which he’s great in), Walker’s early days found him in films like 1986’s Monster in the Closet (where he got his start!), Varsity Blues, The Skulls and the terrific road trip thriller called Joy Ride (pictured) in which Walker shared the screen with Steve Zahn and Leelee Sobieski. He went on to star in equally awesome Running Scared.
Our thoughts go out to his family and friends and he will be greatly missed.
