The Friday numbers are in for James Wan’s Insidious Chapter 2 and it looks like the sequel took in an estimated $20.1 million.
Box office analysts are saying the film is on track to gross between $40-42 million for the weekend, taking into account that its performance will drop a tad after the Friday the 13th release. It’s possible it may surpass the opening weekend gross of Wan’s other 2013 release, The Conjuring, which grossed $41.8 million.
Some are expressing some “surprise” over the sequel’s performance this weekend. I don’t quite get that, myself.
The film showed “hit” all over it with its ad campaign. The film also brings back its entire original cast, supernatural thrillers are doing quite well these days, and it comes from “the director of The Conjuring” – that’s a pretty solid equation.
We’ll update this story when final numbers are in.
