Once a directing vehicle for Larry Fessenden, the English-language remake of The Orphanage does not appear to be entirely dead. A report in Screen Daily reveals the production outfit behind the original film – Rodar y Rodar – still intends to redo Juan Antonio Bayona’s film, but doesn’t give a clear indication as to where it is at in development.
Here’s the report from Screen Daily along with word of another thriller on the remake slab: Julia’s Eyes.
With an estimate budget of $13-16m, the company is working on new international versions of The Uninvited Guest (original by Guillem Morales in 2004), horror film The Orphanage from JA Bayona, Julias Eyes (Guillem Morales, 2010) and The Boyd (Oriol Paulo, 2012).
More as it comes in.
In The Orphanage, a woman brings her family back to her childhood home, where she opens an orphanage for handicapped children. Before long, her son starts to communicate with an invisible new friend.
