On the genre side of things, ParaNorman and Frankenweenie scored Oscar nominations under the category of “Animated Feature Film.” The two are competing alongside Brave, The Pirates! Band of Misfits and Wreck-It Ralph.
I’ve been pretty vocal about my love for ParaNorman over Frankenweenie around these parts and that still stands. I think what the team did in ParaNorman is a remarkable achievement in animation; we’ll see if the Academy agrees.
Under “Achievement in Makeup and Hairstyling,” Hitchcock‘s scored a nomination (KNB EFX’s Howard Berger, Peter Montagna and Martin Samuel). And in “Achievement in Visual Effects,” you’ll find Prometheus – and I think we can all agree, the movie is gorgeous to look at as are its dazzling effects.
