While The Silence of the Lambs and (especially) Manhunter are better movies, Ridley Scotts Hannibal, entertaining in its own right, takes the cake when it comes to onscreen cannibalism.
The most memorable depiction comes near the end. Dr. Lecter is holding a private dinner party; his guests are Clarice (Julianne Moore) and Paul Krendler, an arrogant and deceitful federal agent played by Ray Liotta. Angered by the way Krendler has mistreated Clarice, Lecter has his revenge: he removes the top of his skull, scoops out some of his brain, and then cooks them up before serving Krendler his own brain (before killing him). It is grotesquely humorous.
As the movie concludes, Lecter is flying somewhere. Of course, he wont have anything to do with airline food. He has brought his own delicacies. A little boy becomes curious as he watches Lecter prepare his food. Echoing almost everyones mother by noting the importance of trying new things, Lecter allows the kid to munch on some of Krendlers brain. A good time is had by all.
