10 Horror Flick Picks from a Hot Chick

You may have seen her on VH1

Carrie Keagan is one of us, one of us, one of us… A horror lover at heart. You might not pick up on this at first glance, but know her as long as we have (she’s been a friend of Shock’s for years) and you’ll quickly hear she knows her shit. Often, one would find her at a press screening of the latest horror film.

These days, she’s blowing up in a big way career-wise (still, she makes time for a fright flick or two when she’s in L.A.). Known for her well-timed comedic wit and uncensored interviews at NGTV, Keagan has taken her talents to Manhattan where she hosts VH1’s Big Morning Buzz.

With Halloween just around the corner, we asked this gal to submit to us her 10 favorite horror films. (We don’t get too many female contributes around Shock!) Not surprisingly, she jumped at the chance to share them. Here are her choices, in her own words.

1.) Carrie

Duh! The day I met Sissy Spacek I told her that my parents named me after her movie Carrie. She instantly got a gracious smile on her face, and just as instantly that smile turned to horror and confusion as she said, “Oh my! Really? I’m not sure what that says about them.”

2.) The Exorcist/The Exorcist III

My favorite horror film of all time…no surprise. Disturbing and creepy, it still holds up to this day. My favorite line from the original is, “Do you know what she did, your cunting daughter?” But the scene in The Exorcist III with the sheers will give me nightmares forever!

3.) The Evil Dead series

Bruce Campbell as Ash got better with every film. “Hail to the king baby!”

4.) Freaks

A true classic! Released in 1932, it was a film so horrifying that they had to take out almost 30 minutes to get it past the censors and then it was pretty much buried or banned for almost 40 years. I’m still trying to get my hands on the director’s cut…anyone?

5.) The Descent

This was one of first times a group of girls aren’t the wimpy naked chicks running through the forest. The Crawlers are cool as shit!

6.) Shaun of the Dead

This film is the best zom-edy (zombie comedy) film ever!!! The combination of Simon Pegg, Nick Frost and Edgar Wright is comic genius. Poetically speaking, it’s the perfect example of three wrongs making a Wright!

7.) Hostel

Eli Roth is a sick fuck! That just might be the finest compliment I’ve ever given anyone. These films make you afraid to travel just like Jaws made you afraid to go in the water.

8.) 28 Days Later

Any film that opens up with full frontal male nudity is going to have enough balls to keep my attention, but then add Cillian Murphy’s powerful performance and way too realistic zombies and you have yourself…a trifecta of terror!

9) The Lost Boys

This film gave True Blood a reason for being. Joel Schumacher had the right idea. Take a bunch of hot guys and let them run wild! “Party all night. Sleep All Day. Never Grow Old. Never Die. It’s Fun To Be A Vampire.”

10.) Paranormal Activity

I couldn’t sleep for days after seeing this film. To this day, the more I talk about it the more it freaks me out. I will always have fond memories of the dark theater as the credits rolled and one whimpering man screaming, “Somebody turn on the fucking lights!”
