Lionsgate Embraces Chaos

Based on the book series by Patrick Ness

Another week, another young adult series snatched up by a Hollywood studio.

This time it’s “Chaos Walking,” from writer Patrick Ness. Rights to the author’s series have gone to Lionsgate. Doug Davison is on board to produce.

The series consists of the novels: “The Knife of Never Letting Go,” “The Ask and the Answer” and “Monsters of Men.”

Set against the backdrop of an alien world, human colonies are thrown into, well, chaos, when an infection known as the Noise makes every human or animal thought audible. The story focuses on a young man names Todd Hewitt who is chased by a maniac preacher intent on taking over the human settlement and waging war with the planet’s indigenous alien race.

“Although these stories are set in a critical time in the future, they speak volumes about what is happening all over the world today, and about the power of young people to challenge the status quo and change the course of our future,” said Alli Shearmur, Lionsgate’s President of Motion Picture Production and Development, who will be overseeing the production for the studio, with Senior Vice President of Motion Picture Production Jim Miller. “We feel privileged to be bringing these powerful and exquisite books to cinematic life.”

Ness’ most recent novel, “A Monster Calls,” hit stores last month.
