Arriving in stores September 6
A year ago, more or less, I joined forces with producer Anthony Masi to write and direct Still Screaming: The Ultimate Scary Movie Retrospective, a look at the making off the Scream trilogy and its impact on the genre.
The hope was to get it onto DVD by the time Scream 4 hit theaters. Alas, shit happens and we didn’t make that deadline, although we did have a Los Angeles premiere on the evening before Scream 4‘s release.
Since then, Still Screaming was delivered to the mighty Miramax who – through their DVD distribution partnership with Lionsgate Home Entertainment – are releasing the doc on Blu-ray Tuesday, September 6.
Where can you find it? Well, you see, Miramax/LGHE packaged the doc in a four-disc Scream Blu-Ray collection. You’ll find Scream: The Inside Story (an A&E doc that focuses on the first film). I hear the set is going pretty cheap at various online retailers. Unfortunately, it is not being released as a stand-alone disc, something we fought for. And it’s not available on DVD, you can only get it in the set and on Blu-ray. (These things are out of my hands.)
And while I haven’t been able to confirm this with anyone at the studio, Scream-Trilogy learned that the fourth disc will contain all of the bonus content we submitted. That means extended interviews, a fan featurette and commentary. I’m really hoping that stuff is on there.
If you’re in Los Angeles, Dark Delicacies (3512 W. Magnolia, Burbank, CA) is holding a signing event. I’ll be there with Masi, our editor Monica Daniel, composer John Corlis, Scream vets Marianne Maddalena (producer), Laeta Kalogridis (screenwriter, Scream 3), Patrick Lussier (editor) Joseph Whipp (“Sheriff Burke”) and hopefully a few others. The signing starts a 7pm. If you can’t make it, hit up the Dark Delicacies crew to order signed copies.
With that bit of self-promotion over, I sincerely hope you guys dig the doc!
