Tobe Hooper Talks Djinn, Reflects on Horror

Best screenplay he’s had in a while

“Itâ??s the best screenplay that Iâ??ve read in many years, and it was much more of what Iâ??ve always wanted to do. Itâ??s more of a metaphysical thriller, laced with extremely good characters.”

That’s Tobe Hooper talking to Rolling Stone about his upcoming horror film Djinn which he wrapped in the UAE. Khalid Laith and Razane Jammal are starring in the thriller about a couple who return home from the U.S. only to find their apartment is haunted by a malevolent spirit.

“Itâ??s been illuminating,” Hooper told RS of his experience shooting the project. “Believe me, itâ??s more than folklore. I started with the internet, and I started with Google Earth, getting as much information as possible. Then, the preparation came around and I started visiting places. I started talking to a lot of people, both within the production and outside of it. Iâ??ll be shooting on an ancient territory, a place thatâ??s basically in ruins because the djinn had moved the human beings out.”
