McFarlane: Same Old Song About Spawn

Will we ever see a proper film?

Do I want to see a faithful screen adaptation of Spawn? If you asked me fifteen years ago, I would have enthusiastically said, “Hell yeah.” Now? I can take it or leave it. If any film needs a reboot, it’s Spawn, which opened in theaters in 1997, still, isn’t it a bit late?

Todd McFarlane’s been preaching about a new film for some time now. He’s working on the script. It’s taking some time. He might have to do it independently to have it done right.

He says pretty much the same thing in a new interview with Newsarama. Except this time he reveals three studios are interested. But if all else fails, he might just finance the film himself.

“I’m 80% through the script, I did my due diligence, went around Hollywood,” says McFarlane. “I listened to the pitch from all the big studios, but I just went, ‘nah, I need to make this small and tight and contained.'”
