Joe Hill’s Horns Skewers Mandalay

A hangover leads to a hellish surprise



While fans await a cinematic adaptation of author Joe Hill’s “Heart-Shaped Box,” once set up with Neil Jordan attached, Mandalay Pictures has swiftly moved in on snatching up the rights to his novel “Horns,” which has yet to be released.

This latest tale from Hill, who is the son of Stephen King, hits book stores in February and tells of a man in his twenties who awakens from a hangover with horns sprouting from his head. The key to why they are there, and why they continue to grow, are connected to the unsolved murder of his girlfriend.

So, The Hangover with a devilish twist?

Hill’s “Heart-Shaped Box” resides at Warner Bros. There’s a possibility Mandalay may take “Horns” to Universal where they have a first-look deal. The author also penned “Locke and Key” for IDW Publishing. Dimension Films picked up the rights to that property.
