Screen Gems Hooks Up With a Beautiful Girl

Teacher/student affair goes too far

Michael Cunningham (The Hours), reportedly a genre fan, has sold a spec script entitled Beautiful Girl to Screen Gems, Clint Culpepper’s ever-growing house of horror at Sony.

According to THR, the story concerns a brainy high school girl who cleans up good in the looks department by the time she hits her senior year. She strikes up a relationship with her English lit teacher, he develops a crush and exacts “maniacal revenge on everyone who was cruel to her.”

Hmm, teacher goes psycho-bonzo for his student? Sounds like the set-up for Screen Gems’ redo of Prom Night.

Douglas Wick and Lucy Fisher are producing the film through their Red Wagon banner. The Ohio-born Cunningham also penned “A Home at the End of the World.”
