EXCL: Producer Talks Re-Animator Remake

It is a “concept,” plus rumor control

The Re-Animator remake, we first broke the news to you about here, is indeed on the table. But it is not as far along as some news sources (throwing attached names like Elisha Cuthbert around) claim it is.

Earlier this month, I caught up to director Stuart Gordon who was unaware of executive producer Ray Haboush’s plans to redo the ’85 film in 3-D (read about that here). Haboush, of Halcyon International Pictures, is now speaking out about the recent rumors and the status of the remake.

“This current rumor about Elisha Cuthbert appearing in the remake of Re-Animator is just that – a rumor,” he says. “Actually the whole idea that we are remaking the movie this summer, in Spain nonetheless, is completely off base…especially as no talent – writer, director, nor actor – has been attached to this project in any capacity whatsoever.”

Haboush confirms, however, that our this story is true. “We have been discussing amongst ourselves the idea of remaking Re-Animator, in 3D, however, at the moment, it is still only a concept. For now, all of Brian [Yuzna]’s attention is focused on prepping Amphibious, a creature feature to be shot in 3D, that he’s directing next month in Southeast Asia.”
