Raimi Talks Evil Dead Remake…Again

Same status, extra “socko”!



For us press types, it’s become mandatory: You talk to Sam Raimi, you ask about the status of the Evil Dead franchise. Even if you know the answers by heart (which we do), you need to ask. And so, IGN caught up to Raimi at SXSW and pressed him for updates on the Evil Dead remake and Evil Dead 4.

“I have talked with my partners about having a young director come in and remake Evil Dead,” he revealed. “That film was made in 16mm on a shoestring budget and blown up to 35mm. The visual effects are crumby, it was done in mono, not even stereo, let alone 5.1. What you could do with it now would be so much better. I think if you had a new director using the full power of 35mm and 5.1 sound, you could really make a pretty socko presentation. It was always meant for the big screen, but never really seen on the big screen”

Mind you, he’s been saying this for about a year now. But I liked how he tossed the word “socko” in there. That’s why we love him. As for Evil Dead 4 – which would seem silly if they wound up doing a remake – Raimi said…
