Shock Talk: Horror Directors Do Comedy Pt. 1

An interview with James Wan, Peter Cornwell

It’s been said that dying is easy, comedy is hard. But for the directors of XBox Live’s first original series, both carry equal weight and appear to be a breeze. Having slaughtered innocents in films such as Slither, Saw, 30 Days of Night and Hatchet, directors James Wan, James Gunn, David Slade, Andrew Douglas, Peter Cornwell, Adam Green and Lucky McKee stepped outside of their genre comfort zone for a series of comedy shorts which began running on XBox Live on November 26th.

This endeavor is produced by Peter Safran and Jake Zim of Safran Digital Group and creator James Gunn; the U.S. Air Force hopped on board as a sponsor. And although one could argue that many of these directors imbued some of their past fright flicks with a doses of black humor, this latest experiment, dubbed “Horror Meets Comedy,” has them deliberately taking a stab at your funny bone and not the throat.

ShockTillYouDrop.com was invited to talk with four of the participating directors and in this installment of Shock Talk I sit down with James Wan (Saw) and Peter Cornwell (The Haunting in Connecticut) to discuss this series and their respective contributions Doggie Heaven and Post-Apocalyptic Pizza. Stay tuned for our James Gunn and Andrew Douglas interview! For more on the “Horror Meets Comedy” series, visit the official site.
