Natali given time to build his creature
Some films need adequate incubation time before they’re given life on the big screen. Vincenzo Natali’s horror/sci-fi hybrid Splice, starring Adrien Brody and Sarah Polley, is one of them. Here’s a picture announced in early 2007 and is only now pushing through post-production with executive producer Guillerm del Toro monitoring editing.
“Rather than rush the CGI ’cause it’s so crucial to the monster in this movie, we’re having a leisurely time with the CG,” says executive producer Don Murphy. “It’ll be finished in the spring and the current plans – because Vincenzo is from Toronto – is to premiere it at the Toronto Film Festival next September.”
The creature in the film under much care is named Dren (Delphine Chanéac), a product of Brody and Polley’s genetic experiment to fuse human and animal DNA. As things are wont to do in films like this, Dren becomes more than her creators can handle. For a small sampling of what she looks like click here.
