Summit Greenlights New Moon

Twilight sequel confirmed during big weekend

Gobbling up the green at the box office (we’re awaiting Saturday numbers after the estimated $35 million Friday debut), Twilight has officially given birth to a sequel.

Summit Entertainment announced this morning that it is officially greenlighting New Moon, the second title in Stephenie Meyer’s series.

The story is centered on Edward Cullen leaving Bella Swan in order to keep her safe from other vampires. Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart play the leads in the film.

Melissa Rosenberg will adapt. Summit has already secured the rights to other sequels Eclipse and Breaking Dawn (details).
