Eisner on fast track to remake Romero
Timothy Olyphant (Hitman) is set to star in Breck Eisner’s remake of The Crazies. The update of George Romero’s 1973 film of the same name is being produced for Overture Films; the company has it penciled in for release on September 25, 2009.
The actor – who has appeared in other genre fare like Scream 2, Dreamcatcher and the upcoming A Perfect Getaway – will play a town sheriff up to his neck in residents infected with a biological weapon after a plane crashes tainting the water supply. Scott Kosar (The Machinist) wrote early drafts of the script which was then handed over to Ray Wright (Pulse).
Romero is on board as executive producer; he’s joined by Michael Aguilar and Dean Georgaris.
