Summit Officially Announces Twilight Sequels

Nabs rights for a total of three

A week out from the release of Twilight, Summit Entertainment is announcing it has secured the rights to Stephenie Meyer’s subsequent installments: New Moon, Eclipse and Breaking Dawn.

Melissa Rosenberg (exclusive interview) will reprise her duties from the first feature film and adapt New Moon and Eclipse. Summit did not attach a writer to Breaking Dawn.

Honestly, this news is like, “Well, duh…” For months the producers have been hinting at sequel possibilities. And given the mobs coming out to see the cast and crew on tour, Summit would be foolish to not announce follow up plans – I’m just surprised they did it this early. I thought for sure we’d hear confirmation either on the eve of Twilight‘s release or opening weekend.
