HBO Taps True Blood for Second Season

Episode 2 garners viewer increase

The cast of True Blood will be returning in 2009 for a second season.

HBO announced today that it has renewed the Alan Ball-produced vampire series which aired its second episode last Sunday. According to a press release, the series’ viewership increased 24% in its second chapter. Repeat airings throughout this week have been reportedly strong as well.

Based on the novels Charlaine Harris, the series follows Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin), a barmaid living in Louisiana who can read people’s minds, and how her life is turned upside down when she begins to swoon for a vampire named Bill (Stephen Moyer).

Filming on the second season will begin early next year.
