Johnny boy takes a prison thriller?
After spending the last few months milling about Hollywood, taking meetings with writers and perusing scripts, John Carpenter, it seems, is doing a prison film next. It will be his first feature film since 2001’s Ghost of Mars.
Scared Straight is the name of the picture and it will team Carpenter up with actor Nicolas Cage. Joe Gazzam and Ron Brinkerhoff’s script concerns a young man sent to prison as part of a scared straight program. When a prison riot breaks out, the inmates take the youth hostage. Cage is playing a lifer who lends some assistance.
Carpenter and Cage’s deals are being finalized. Nu Image/Millenium Films will produce. According to THR, the project was once set up at New Line.
