Producing Moody’s novel for Universal
Guillermo Del Toro clarified for us in December (here) that he was co-producing an adaptation of David Moody’s Hater, now official word is in with more names attached.
According to Variety, Del Toro will oversee development of the film for Universal Pictures with Mark Johnson. The Shield‘s Glen Mazzara is locked to translate the source material for the screen. In Moody’s 2006 tome, an epidemic breaks out forcing people to break out into fits of violence.
Johnson originally wanted Del Toro to helm, but the director is a bit tied up with some “little” project called The Hobbit.
“I’ll carry my weight on the creative side, in choosing elements and storyboarding, but it will be up to Mark and the director we choose to execute the day to day,” Del Toro tells the trade paper. “The Hobbit is a “monumental task, and I don’t want to do anything that detracts from my attention to that.”
