Horrific Happenings in L.A.

Your to-do list for this weekend!

‘Cause you know at some point you’re going to want to turn the DVD player off (still spinning from the night before for whatever movie marathon you’re rockin’ away on), throw on some fancy duds, crack open the door and haul your ass out into the big bad world. Oooh, scary! Here are some horror-related happenings going down in Los Angeles this weekend.

Boo’s Party at The Good Nite Bar

Saturday, April 5th: Technically, this rolls out the first Saturday of every month, but we’ll mention it now so you can stick that in your cranium and make note of it. The Good Nite’s a classy joint, been there. DJ. Solid, dark atmosphere. Stripper pole. Goddamn sexy bar gals. Movie screens (always crankin’ out horror flicks when I’m there). The Boo’s Party begins at 9pm, but Happy Hour is from 7:30 – 10pm. See the flyer below for the address.

The Vampire Show at The Steve Allen Theater

Saturday, April 5th: Friends of the late Maila Nurmi have come together to put on this event touting “Comedy!” and “Music!” (it can’t be anything else without the “!”). Mystery Science Theater 3000‘s Joel Hodgson, comedian Dana Gould and The Ghastly Ones are on tap for the evening among others. Ten bucks admission. Not shabby. The night starts at 8pm. Proceeds go to Nurmi’s Memorial Fund. Flyer and address below.

April Ghouls Day Reception at the Hyaena Gallery

Saturday, April 5th: Meet acclaimed artist Eric Pigors, known for his “Toxic Toons,” at this Burbank-based tomb that serves as a shop for peculiar items (you can get vagina-shaped soap here, no joke) and counter-culture art. Pigors current display is running April 1st – April 15th, but tomorrow night is the big reception. So, swing by. Buy some art. Get some soap, I hear you’ve been dirty. Flyer and address below.

New Beverly Midnights Presents…

Saturday, April 5th @ Midnight! Joe Dante’s Piranha! Yessiree, it’s Joe Dante month at the New Bev (7165 W. Beverly Blvd.) and it begins here with this ’78 Jaws rip-off penned by John Sayles.
