Spanish horror film jolts audiences
And this is why an American studio is remake Rec – to capture this kind of reaction and make it their own. Video cameras equipped with night vision were installed throughout the theater during a Sitges Film Festival screening of Jaume Balagueró and Paco Plaza’s Spanish horror flick; the resulting footage is pretty great. The energy is high. What I love is we don’t see a thing from the film, all we hear is the gasp of audience members and a lot of screeching.
Rec, as you may or may not know, follows a TV reporter and her cameraman as they follow a group of local fire fighters. Receiving a call from an old lady trapped in her house, they reach her building to hear horrifying screams – which begin a long nightmare and a uniquely dramatic TV report.
Sony’s Screen Gems is remaking the film under the title Quarantine. Shooting begins soon in Los Angeles.
