A legend has many films
Variety called attention to another Countess Bathory biopic via a feature article on Hollywood’s recent fascination with the early-1600’s blood beauty. You may recall a chat we had with Chris Tuffin about The Countess, one of two films on the way centering around Erzsébet Báthory. That film, a vehicle for Julie Delpy, is lensing later this year.
There is another, however, that’s further along in its development. Juraj Jakubisko’s Bathory is well on its way to completion. The 2 1/2 hour epic that cost $14.5 million stars Anna Friel as the countess who would murder young girls and bathe in their blood to retain her youthfulness. Karl Roden (Hellboy) and Franco Nero (of the “Django” films) co-star. Jakubisko’s story of Bathory reportedly has epic battles and lavish scope with 120 speaking roles, a contrast to Delpy’s vision.
