Don’t Look Back B.O. Champ

Malaysian horror – next big thing?

Development execs could do well to turn their heads for inspiration (or remake rights) to Malaysia where a certain supernatural freakfest is scoring big.

Jangan Pandang Belakang, or, Don’t Look Back, is scaring up some supreme business and is on track to be the country’s largest grossing film. Over the course of its four-day opening debut, it grossed nearly 2.2 million ringgit (roughly $640,000) which may seem like small potatoes here, but is a big bucks over there. What’s even more remarkable about the film, directed by Ahmed Idham, is the reaction it’s garnering from the Malaysian populace. The ratings board has insisted folks who are pregnant or have heart conditions stay away from the flick like the plague – kinda like the “Back to the Future” ride at Universal Studios.

What’s all the fuss about? Said story concerns a man investigating the death of his fiancée. He pairs up with her twin sister for help and finds his search is having an unhealthy effect on his state of mind. The film opened earlier this month – here’s a trailer!
