Thrillers Dominate B.O. Top Five

Disturbia holds strong…

Scary teen fare dominated the box office once again as Disturbia held its spot at number one with a weekend estimated gross of $13 million. That now propels its cumulative domestic take to $40 mil – hmm, who smells direct-to-vid sequel in the future? The Anthony “I Shot My Wife” Hopkins thriller that debuted this week, Fracture, came in at number two with $11 million while Friday’s other newcomer, Vacancy, checked in at number four with $7 million allowing the Will Farrell-starring Blades of Glory to linger in the top five at number three. Edgar Wright’s Hot Fuzz – a critic fave – jumped, twirled, and back-flipped with guns blazin’ into the top ten, landing on its feet in the sixth spot arresting $5.8 million. Not impressive, sure, but remember it opened on only 825 screens. Meet the Robinsons, meanwhile, took a bump from last week’s three spot to number five.
