Eyeing role of father Talbot
One of the more promising remakes on the way is Mark Romanek’s The Wolf Man, Universal’s period-piece remake of the 1941 black & white classic starring Lon Chaney, Jr. I’ve had a chance to read Andrew Kevin Walker’s script and it’s a strong piece of work that does justice to the original. Benicio Del Toro – reportedly a “Wolf Man” fan – is set to star as Larry Talbot, a fellow afflicted by a curse who learns that diddy we know all too well: “Even a man who is pure in heart and says his prayers by night maybe become a wolf when the wolfbane blooms and the autumn moon is bright.”
According to Rotten Tomatoes, Anthony Hopkins is circling a part in the film as Talbot’s father. “My agent says it’s a great script but he hasn’t sent it to me yet,” the actor, now starring in Fractured, says. No doubt the man who sky-rocketed Hannibal Lecter into the pop culture stratosphere will score the role, it just isn’t official. But we’ll let you know when it is!
