Coming off from the recent release of Netflix’s thriller film Rebecca, it looks like director Ben Wheatley has secretly set up his next major project with NEON officially announcing that filming has wrapped on Wheatley’s new pandemic horror film titled In the Earth. The English filmmaker is no stranger to the horror genre as he was first known for his breakout works on psychological horror films such as Kill List and A Field in England.

Written and directed by Ben Wheatley, In the Earth is expected to deliver a timely story set in a world that searches for a cure to a disastrous virus as a scientist and park scout venture deep in the forest for a routine equipment run. Through the night, their journey becomes a terrifying voyage through the heart of darkness, the forest coming to life around them.
The horror film will star Joel Fry (Yesterday, Game of Thrones), Ellora Torchia (The Split, Midsommar), Hayley Squires (I, Daniel Blake), and BAFTA Award Winner Reece Shearsmith (Inside No. 9, Psychoville).

Andy Starke produced for Wheatley and Starke’s Rook Films alongside Tom Quinn and Jeff Deutchman who executive produced on behalf of NEON. Protagonist will launch foreign sales for the horror film at next week’s AFM, where they will be sharing exclusive footage with buyers.
In the Earth has been set for a 2021 theatrical launch in the US.
