Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle Should be on the Top Your Holiday Must-See List

Jumanji, the 1995 film featuring the late and beloved Robin Williams, is coming back to the big screen with a modern twist. Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle is a sequel that takes place 20 years after Jumanji. For those of you who haven’t seen Jumanji before, the story takes place within a fantasy adventure board game which you must complete in order to stop lions, carnivorous plants, and giant wasps from wreaking havoc on reality. Sony Pictures‘ Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle is similar in that the protagonists must finish the game to return home, but different in that four stereotypical high school kids get sucked into a video game as avatars that are foils of themselves.

Spencer Miller, a nerdy gamer, becomes Dr. Smolder Bravestone (Johnson), a muscular archaeologist; Bethany White, a stereotypical snotty pretty girl cheerleader, becomes Shelly Oberon (Black), an overweight cryptographer; Anthony “Fridge” Johnson, a football player, becomes “Franklin “Moose” Finbar (Hart), a zoologist and weapon’s expert, and Martha Schwartz, a shy bookworm, becomes Ruby Roundhouse (Gillan), a commando who humorously exclaims, “why am I wearing half a shirt and short shorts in the jungle?”

While no major plot points have been leaked yet, we do know that director Jake Kasdan put together a unique group. Funny men Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, and Jack Black will be part of the cast, along with Doctor Who star Karen Gillan and singer Nick Jonas. It will be interesting to see if Kevin and Dwayne can recreate their chemistry from Central Intelligence.

While we can predict that these characters will return in one piece with a renewed bond and self-improvements (which the principal will surely attribute to being in detention), the star-studded cast and promise of an action comedy should make this movie a must-see.

Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle is out in theaters on December 22, 2017.
