KJ Adams Jr. Suffers Achilles Injury During Kansas vs. Arkansas Match

KJ Adams Jr, a college basketball player for the Kansas Jayhawks in the Big 12 Conference, suffered an Achilles injury during a game against the Arkansas Razorbacks on Thursday, March 20, 2025. Kansas coach Bill Self speculated that the injury could be serious and might sideline the talented young forward for up to a year.

What happened to KJ Adams Jr?

Adams Jr. sustained an Achilles injury against Arkansas in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. With 3:14 remaining on the clock and Kansas leading 67-64, Adams attempted to secure a defensive rebound. Upon landing, he appeared to sustain the injury, as he fell to the ground when he tried to move forward. His teammates, Zeke Mayo and AJ Storr, helped him stand up, and he was subsequently taken off the court.

Before his injury, Adams scored 13 points in the match. After the injury, Arkansas made a comeback and eventually won the match with a score of 79-72.

We’re hopeful for the best tomorrow, but I’m not sure it will be great news,” Self said about Adams’ injury. “Losing the game is one thing, but seeing him potentially miss a year on top of that is a pretty big blow.”

When asked if he had anything to say to his team after their difficult season, Self implied that he would likely focus on KJ Adams and his injury for now. “We had a kid in there who was really hurting with his family,” he explained. “Now is not the time to talk about that stuff. Let’s worry about your teammate right now.” (via ESPN)

Originally from Austin, Texas, Adams is 6 ft 7 in (2.01 m) and weighs 235 lbs. He attended St. Stephen’s Episcopal School during his freshman year before transferring to Westlake High School. He reportedly received offers from Baylor, Georgetown, Arkansas, Texas, Iowa, Texas Tech, and Oklahoma before choosing the University of Kansas.
