Will Wade might become NC State head coach, claims report

Will Wade is reportedly on track to become NC State’s next head coach. The McNeese coach has reportedly reached an agreement with the Wolfpack, though no official announcement has been made. Sources indicate that NC State plans to finalize the hire once McNeese wraps up its NCAA Tournament run.

During a press conference on Wednesday, Wade acknowledged the ongoing discussions with NC State. He stated that he wasn’t trying to hide anything from his players, as the reports were already circulating on social media. He said, “It’s no good if you don’t address it and if you sit there and B.S. ’em. They know. They can read right through the B.S. So you might as well just [say] ‘This is what it is.’” (via ESPN)

Over the years, Wade has built a strong coaching resume. In two seasons at McNeese, he led the team to consecutive Southland Conference titles and secured 57 wins. Before McNeese, Wade spent five seasons at LSU, guiding the Tigers to three NCAA Tournament appearances and an SEC regular-season title in 2019. However, his tenure ended in controversy when he was fired in 2022 following an NCAA investigation. Prior to LSU, he served as head coach at VCU and Chattanooga, making NCAA Tournament appearances with VCU.
