Dodgers Freddie Freeman May Return for Angels Match Following Injury

Freddie Freeman’s rib injury, which affected him during the 2024 MLB postseason, continues to be a concern as the Los Angeles Dodgers start their season in Japan. Initially expected to take his usual spot at first base, Freeman was replaced by Kike Hernandez. Now, many fans are wondering when he will return to action.

Here are more details about Freddie Freeman’s injury and his expected return.

Freddie Freeman might return to play against Angels, claims report

Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman was sidelined for both games of the Tokyo Series due to discomfort in his left rib. The injury also kept him out of the team’s season opener against the Chicago Cubs. While Freeman had hoped to play, the Dodgers opted for caution to prevent further complications.

Manager Dave Roberts explained that Freeman was eager to take the field but ultimately agreed with the medical staff’s recommendation to sit out. Despite this, Roberts expressed optimism that Freeman could be ready for the upcoming Freeway Series against the Los Angeles Angels. Roberts stated, “He lobbied hard like he always does. He wants to play every day. He kind of prepared to play but ultimately conceded to myself and the training staff. It’s just too early in the season to potentially put him in harm’s way.” (via MLB

Freeman’s discomfort resurfaced during batting practice on Tuesday in the same area where he previously suffered a rib cartilage fracture during the 2023 postseason. However, he noted that the pain was not as severe. Team doctors suspect the issue may be linked to scar tissue from the previous injury rather than a new problem.

Although Freeman could not play in the Tokyo Series, he participated in two exhibition games. These were against the Yomiuri Giants and Hanshin Tigers. His status for the Freeway Series remains uncertain, but the Dodgers are hopeful he will soon return to play.
