New iOS 19 Features Will ‘Dramatically Overhaul’ iPhone

A new online report suggests that iOS 19 is expected to drastically change the iPhone and its user interface. The report also details the features that will be overhauled. The new system software is reported to be announced by Apple at some point during the next Worldwide Developers Conference, scheduled for June 2025.

Here is everything that’s currently known about the new iOS 19 features that are expected to overhaul the iPhone.

Here’s how iOS 19 will affect iPhones

iOS 19 is reportedly expected to revamp the iPhone’s icons, menus, apps, windows, and system buttons.

This is according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. He called it one of the “most dramatic software overhauls” in Apple’s history. Gurman noted that the objective was to “transform the interface of the iPhone, iPad, and Mac for a new generation of users.”

iOS 19’s revamp is the biggest since 2013’s iOS 7, which redefined the iOS software system by bringing in the now popular flat and streamlined appearance. This revamp also follows 2020’s MacOS 11 Big Sur release.

Moreover, Gurman stressed that this overhaul aimed to ensure a closer resemblance between the software designs of iOS, IPadOS, and MacOS. He noted that the Apple Vision Pro’s visionOS interface would serve as an inspiration for the overhaul. Thus, iOS 19 could feature circular app icons as seen in the visionOS. It could also feature updated gesture controls, menu functions, and animations.

Bloomberg also reported that Siri would receive a major change too. Siri currently has two systems, where one oversees commands like timers and alarms, and the other supervises advanced controls. However, this update is behind schedule and is not expected to be announced at WWDC. (via 9 to 5 Mac)

Additionally, the Camera app is also expected to be changed drastically for iOS 19. As shared by Jon Prosser on YouTube, the application will streamline the controls into just two buttons “Photo” and “Video”. Upon toggling “Photo,” users can adjust settings like depth, spatial, pano, style, aspect ratio, exposure, and timer. Meanwhile, opening “Video” allows users to adjust the first two settings as well as features like slo-mo, timelapse, action, and exposure. Prosser stated that the camera app’s appearance “perfectly mirrors the design ethos from visionOS.”
