Why Do Fans Think Rex Splode Will Come Back in Invincible?

Rex Splode‘s shocking death in Invincible Season 3 Episode 7 has not only deeply hurt fans but also made them question whether he would come back from the dead. The explosion-powered superhero met his demise while fighting an evil Mark Grayson variant, who gave him a rather brutal beating. Rex sacrificed himself by blowing up his skeleton. The character previously had a close brush with death in Season 2, during a fight with the Lizard League.

So, does Rex Splode come back from the dead following the events of Invincible Season 3 Episode 7? Here is your answer.

Does Rex Splode come back from the dead after Invincible Season 3 Episode 7?

It remains to be seen whether Rex Splode will come back from the dead after Invincible Season 3 Episode 7. But it seems he’s likely to remain dead in the show.

Everyone who has died in Invincible, namely Immortal and Dupli-Kate, has come back from the dead through various means. This essentially means that permanent death is a rare or uncommon phenomenon in the Invincible universe.

Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for Rex Splode. In the comics, the character stays dead following the events of the Invincible War storyline. The Amazon Prime Video series has so far followed the source material, despite making key changes in the story on occasion. As such, it seems highly unlikely that Rex could be resurrected.

Thus, it seems the only way Rex could grace fans with his presence once again is via a prequel spin-off or special episode centered around the character and his origins, like Invincible: Atom Eve. Unfortunately, it will be a long time before fans can see this come to fruition. This is because creator Robert Kirkman confirmed in a Dexerto interview that the creative team was currently focused on the main Invincible series’ yearly release schedule, even though they would “really love to do” a Rex Splode special spin-off.

Previously, in a Collider interview, Rex Splode voice actor Jason Mantzoukas expressed interest in doing a Rex Splode spin-off. However, Kirkman humorously shut down the prospect, noting jokingly he would consider doing one if it focused on a younger version of the character, where Mantzoukas “doesn’t do the voice.”

Despite dying, his memory is immortalized via his teammate and close friend Robot, who eventually changes his name to Rex.
