Luke Combs Talks About ‘Wicked’ OCD Condition, Says ‘It Held Me Back’

Recently, Luke Combs shared his experiences and struggle with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), describing how the condition affected both his personal and professional life. The country singer revealed that the condition caused significant challenges. Now, fans are eager to know what he said.

Here are more details about Luke Combs’ OCD condition.

What did Luke Combs say about his condition?

In an interview with 60 Minutes Australia, Luke Combs revealed how his OCD condition has affected his life and career. He described his experience, calling his form of OCD particularly challenging because it revolves around intrusive thoughts rather than “outward manifestations.”

Combs said, “It’s thoughts, essentially, that you don’t want to have… and then they cause you stress, and then you’re stressed out, and then the stress causes you to have more of the thoughts.” He said that the condition is difficult to manage because it has no visible signs. “The variant I have is particularly wicked because there’s no outward manifestation of it,” Combs added.

The singer admitted that OCD can become overwhelming, even while performing. The intrusive thoughts can range from violent ideas to religion, often focusing on questions that have no clear answers. Over time, he has learned that accepting the thoughts rather than trying to fight them is the best way to manage his condition. Combs further stated, “It’s weird, sucks, hate it, drives me crazy, but then you just eventually… the less that you worry about why you’re having the thoughts, eventually they go away.”

Combs first started experiencing OCD symptoms around the age of 12 or 13 and said the disorder has often “held me back.” There were times when he was making great progress, only to have an episode set him back for months. Despite these challenges, he now has coping tools that help him manage the condition. The country singer said, “I have the tools now… when it happens now, I’m not as afraid of it.”

By speaking openly about OCD, Combs hopes to raise awareness and help others struggling with similar issues. He wants people to know that it is possible to lead a happy and fulfilling life while dealing with mental health challenges.
