USWNT soccer player Sophia Wilson and her spouse, NFL star and Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Michael Wilson, recently confirmed via social media that they were expecting their first child. This heartwarming news comes two months after Sophia and Michael tied the knot in January and a week after Michael celebrated his 25th birthday. It also comes about a year after their engagement in June. Michael and Sophia Wilson have been together since their freshman year at Stanford University, where they were both student athletes. Sophia made a significant impact in the world of sports last year. This was after she and the USWNT won the gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Sophia Wilson is expecting her first child
Michael and Sophia Wilson took to Instagram to confirm the latter’s pregnancy. The couple posted two photos. In the first photo, Michael and Sophia posed intimately, with the latter holding a paper strip of x-ray pictures of her fetus. In the second photo, Sophia was shown sitting on a chair, holding some flowers, while Michael was seen standing and holding the x-ray photos.
“Life just keeps getting sweeter,” the couple captioned the post. The post garnered 146k likes.
Many sports personalities and Wilson’s colleagues congratulated and expressed well wishes for the couple in the comments section. “My life is complete,” commented Sophia’s fellow Triple Espresso member and teammate, Trinity Rodman.
The National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) wrote, “We couldn’t be happier for you, Sophia! Congratulations to you both.”
Meanwhile, Michael’s NFL team, Arizona Cardinals simply said “Congrats.” Additionally, his fellow teammate Paris Johnson Jr. commented “woahhhh! congrats fam.”
Sophia had previously stated in an interview with the Arizona Cardinals alongside Michael her plans to put her professional career on hold once she got pregnant. “I feel like, aside from soccer, that’s what I feel is my calling, to be a mom,” she said. “My career, it has to stop for a period of time when I am pregnant so that’s not something we can just let happen at any moment.”
Sophia Wilson is currently in the final year of her contract with Portland Thorns. She is expected to become a free agent, following the expiration of her contract.
