Jax Taylor talks about his cocaine addiction and how he overcame it

Jax Taylor revealed his struggle with cocaine addiction on Hot Mic with Alex Baskin, stating, “I am an addict.”

He admitted, “I have substance issues—primarily with cocaine. It’s hard to say out loud.” Taylor, 45, explained that he had been battling addiction since he was 23. “There were times where I would stop doing it, but then there were times where I’d go heavy on it.” He acknowledged that fans suspected his drug use, saying, “[They] could kind of tell that I was on something.”

Taylor shared that he quit alcohol to maintain sobriety from cocaine. “People ask you, ‘Do you have an alcohol problem too?’ I don’t necessarily think I have an alcohol problem, but the two go hand in hand,” he said. “I can’t do cocaine without drinking. So I just gave up both.” He announced he was “proud to say I’m 83 days sober right now, which is the longest I’ve ever gone in my life without either.”

Taylor linked his addiction’s escalation to his divorce from Brittany Cartwright. “When Brittany and I separated [in 2024], that’s when the addiction got worse,” he said. “I literally lost control. I hit rock bottom and you know I had to go to rehab.” He entered rehab twice, stating, “It didn’t happen the first time. It happened the second time.” Taylor explained that his second stint was successful because he was ready for change.

Taylor also revealed his bipolar disorder and PTSD diagnosis. He continues therapy and takes weekly drug tests. “The big thing here is my son. He’s my drive and he’s my No. 1 driver for this,” he said.
