There were rumors that Kamala Harris was slated to appear at the 2025 Oscars, held at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles, on March 2. However, it later became clear that she would not make a surprise appearance at the event. Since then, it has been revealed what she was doing instead of attending one of the biggest annual celebrations in Hollywood.
Kamala Harris skips 2025 Oscars and enjoys bags of Doritos
Harris, who served as the US Vice President between 2021 and 2025 and was the Democratic nominee in the 2024 US election, watched the Oscars from the comfort of her home alongside her husband Doug Emhoff. Emhoff took to Instagram Stories to share a photo of his spouse, pouring Doritos from a bag into a bowl. “Oscar watch party prep,” Emhoff wrote over the image.
Notably, Harris is originally from California. She was born in Oakland and served as the 27th District Attorney of San Francisco between 2002 and 2011. She became the attorney general of California in 2010, holding the position until 2017. Harris was elected the US Senator from California in 2017 and served as such until 2021. She was one of the contenders for the 2020 Democratic nomination for president, which was ultimately secured by then-US Vice President Joe Biden. After Biden won the nomination, he selected Harris as his VP.
As mentioned above, in 2024, Harris was the Democratic presidential nominee but lost to her Republican counterpart, Donald Trump.
Earlier on Sunday, multiple outlets speculated over Harris’ prospective appearance at the Oscars. Deadline reported that there was heavier security than usual at the Oscars this year.
As Harris and millions of others watched the 97th Academy Awards from their home, Anora won the Best Picture accolade. Further, Mikey Madison earned Best Actress in a Leading Role for portraying the eponymous character in Anora. Meanwhile, Adrien Brody received the second Best Actor in a Leading Role accolade of his career for playing László Tóth in The Brutalist.
