Travis Kelce says he’s ‘coming back’ for Chiefs in 2025
After weeks of speculation, Travis Kelce has officially confirmed that he will return to play with the Kansas City Chiefs for the 2025 NFL season. The star tight end made his decision clear in a text message to Pat McAfee. The message was shared on The Pat McAfee Show on Thursday. He wrote, “I’m coming back for sure.” Kelce emphasized his commitment to getting in top shape and improving after the team’s Super Bowl loss. He added, “Got a real bad taste in my mouth with how I played in that last game and with how I got the guys ready for battle. I can’t go out like that!!!!” (via ESPN)
Kelce’s future had been a topic of debate, particularly after the Chiefs’ 40-22 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on February 9. In that game, Kelce was limited to just four catches for 39 yards, an underwhelming performance for the All-Pro player. The loss also capped a challenging season where he posted career lows in receiving yards (823) and touchdowns (3), excluding his rookie year. Despite the dip in stats, he remained the team’s leading receiver with 97 catches.
Rumors about Kelce’s future had swirled for weeks, with even his own comments leaving some uncertainty. However, Chiefs general manager Brett Veach had expressed confidence in Kelce’s return earlier in the week. Veach said their last conversation indicated he would play in 2025. On Thursday, his podcast New Heights, which he co-hosts with brother Jason Kelce, posted on X, “IT’S TIME FOR YEAR 13,” further confirming his return. Kelce is expected to discuss his decision in more detail in the upcoming episode of his podcast.
