Katy Perry, Lauren Sanchez, and an all-women crew are gearing up to make history aboard Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin space mission. Scheduled for spring 2025, this historic flight will mark the first all-female space mission since Soviet cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova’s solo journey in 1963.
Here’s a lowdown on what’s about to happen and more.
Katy Perry along with Lauren Sanchez to join Blue Origin mission
Blue Origin, the aerospace company founded by Jeff Bezos, has announced its groundbreaking NS-31 mission, featuring an all-women crew. Among the six-member team are pop superstar Katy Perry and Lauren Sanchez, Bezos’ fiancée. Joining them are notable figures such as CBS Mornings co-host Gayle King, aerospace engineer Aisha Bowe, civil rights activist Amanda Nguyen, and film producer Kerianne Flynn.
“If you had told me I’d be part of the first all-female crew in space, I would have believed you. Nothing was beyond my imagination as a child,” exclaimed Katy Perry. Lauren Sanchez, an Emmy Award-winning journalist and philanthropist, played a key role in organizing the mission. Blue Origin praised her leadership, stating, “She is honored to lead a team of explorers on a mission that will challenge their perspectives of Earth, empower them to share their own stories, and create lasting impact that will inspire generations to come.”
The New Shepard rocket is fully autonomous, with no pilots on board. The 11-minute flight will take the crew beyond the Kármán line, the internationally recognized boundary of space.
This mission is part of Blue Origin’s broader efforts to make space travel more accessible and inclusive. Since its first manned flight in 2021, the company has launched several people into space. It included the founder himself and celebrities like Michael Strahan and William Shatner.
