The Penguin Season 2 in Doubt, Updates on Swamp Thing, Teen Titans, & More

James Gunn and Peter Safran have shared updates on Swamp Thing, The Penguin Season 2, Teen Titans, and more.

Gunn and Safran’s DCU officially launched this past December with the animated Creature Commandos series. Following that comes Superman in July before Peacemaker Season 2 then debuts in August.

Per Variety, Gunn and Safran have now given updates on a number of other DC projects.

What did James Gunn and Peter Safran say about Swamp Thing and The Penguin Season 2?

Regarding Swamp Thing, which was announced in 2023, the project appears to have been put on hold, at least for the time being as director James Mangold has been busy with the Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown.

“We talk about it occasionally,” Gunn said, via The Hollywood Reporter.

There’s been much talk about The Penguin Season 2, meanwhile. A second season of the hit HBO series hasn’t been officially announced yet, though Matt Reeves has stated multiple times that they’re exploring where the story could go next.

Safran threw some cold water on The Penguin Season 2, saying they “don’t know” if it will happen.

“There are a lot of moving pieces — probably most important Colin [Farrell] himself,” he said.

“And 800 pounds of makeup,” Gunn added.

Regarding the Teen Titans movie being written by Ana Nogueira, Safran said that the script isn’t “ready yet.”

Gunn continued, “It was something that Ana was really impassioned about, and she turned over an amazing script for us. She’s fiddling with that now, but it’s definitely not a finished script.”

Safran also confirmed that Matthew Orton is working on a script for “something kind of like” a Deathstroke/Bane story, which was reported in September 2024.

Additionally, development continues on the Wonder Woman prequel series Paradise Lost, while Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is now approximately halfway through production. The latter of those two projects has been given a June 26, 2026, release date.
