Where Did the Plane Crash in Yellowjackets & What Caused It?

Yellowjackets recently returned with its third chapter, resuming the thrilling journey of a girl’s soccer team who are facing fresh challenges in their personal and professional lives. While Season 3 keeps fans hooked, the main inquisition remains the same, as viewers wish to know the reason behind the plane accident in the first season. So, where did the plane crash and what is the cause of the accident in Yellowjackets?

Here is everything you need to know about the deadly accident in the thriller drama series.

Where did the plane crash in Yellowjackets?

The plane crashes in the Canadian wilderness in Yellowjackets.

In the first season, the Yellowjackets team decides to travel to Seattle, Washington to participate in a national tournament. The team gets on Flight 2525, which ends up taking a more northerly route to avoid a mounting storm. Despite the precautions, the pilot loses control and the plane crashes into the Canadian wilderness. The crash resulted in serious casualties, including the death of the head coach, a player, two pilots, and the air hostess.

For the unaware, the series took inspiration from the real-life crash of Uruguayan Air Force’s Flight 571 in October 1972. The plane was carrying the Uruguayan amateur rugby team, traveling to Santiago, Chile for a game. It included a total of 40 passengers and five crew members. The flight ended up crashing into the Andes Mountains in South America, resulting in the death of numerous people and leaving many injured. (via People)

What caused the plane to crash in Yellowjackets?

The cause of the plane crash in Yellowjackets has not been clearly revealed yet.

While the real-life crash reportedly resulted from bad weather and an inexperienced co-pilot, it is not revealed how the pilot lost control of the plane in the series. The cause might be similar in the show but the exact reason remains a mystery. The series mentions a storm but the skies seemed clear during the crash. However, a pilot error is possible.

Some fans believe it was a mechanical error due to an article in the series showing parents of survivors filing a wrongful death suit with the plane’s manufacturer. There is also speculation that the high concentration of iron around the site could have created an issue with the plane’s instruments, and perhaps that could have led to the crash. Further, many also theorize that the mysterious supernatural power in the wilderness could have caused the crash.

Nevertheless, these are theories and fans must wait for the makers to clear the exact cause of the crash in Yellowjackets.
