When it comes to rambling, humorous, and witty acceptance speeches, Kieran Culkin’s name is the first one to be called out. Sticking to the tradition, A Real Pain actor jokingly called out Adrien Brody in his SAG Awards acceptance speech. So what did he say and how did The Brutalist actor react to it?
Here are all the details and more.
Kieran Culkin’s funny acceptance speech explained
Winning the award for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role for his role of Benji Kaplan in A Real Pain, Kieran Culkin didn’t miss the chance to entertain the audience with his signature humor.
During Culkin’s SAG Awards acceptance speech, he playfully called out fellow actor Adrien Brody, referencing the strict time limit for speeches. “Thank you for this incredibly heavy award,” the actor began. “I don’t think there’s any way anyone can hold this for 45 seconds… which is the allotted time, Adrien Brody!”
The crowd erupted in laughter, and Culkin quickly clarified, “There was no reason to take that shot. I love you. Take your time.” Brody, who was there for his nomination in the lead actor category for his role in The Brutalist, took the joke in stride, chuckling from his seat.
However, Brody wasn’t the only one who was taken a shot on. Culkin also thanked Jesse Eisenberg, his co-star and the director of A Real Pain, as well as Eisenberg’s sister, Hallie Eisenberg, in his own signature way.
“He (Jesse) cast me in this movie without ever seeing my work or even auditioning me. He thinks is normal, and I can’t even get into how annoyingly wrong he is.” Culkin revealed. “ But he cast me because his sister told him to. And he puts a lot of faith in her, which is really sweet but dumb.”
He further continued, “So yes, thank you Jesse for putting me in this movie. But I want to take a moment to thank Hallie: Thank you, Hallie, for thinking of me and putting your name into your stupid brother’s ear.”
