Nicolas Cage has recently found himself embroiled in a legal situation after his ex-wife Christina Fulton sued him and their son Weston for an incident of physical assault that Weston allegedly committed against her last year. This has sparked curiosity among fans, who are now curious to learn more details about the lawsuit. This is not the first time Weston Cage has had a brush with the law. Back in 2017, the 34-year-old was arrested on suspicion of a DUI. Here are all the currently available details.
Why is Christina Fulton suing Nicolas Cage and their son?
Christina Fulton is suing Nicolas Cage and their son Weston, for “life-threatening injuries” she received from an alleged attack by Weston last year.
In April 2024, Fulton and Weston had a physical altercation. However, at that time she denied reports that an argument took place between them. She only stated that Weston had experienced a “mental health crisis.” However, Fulton alleged she was assaulted three months later in July. This was following Weston’s arrest on two felony charges of assault with a deadly weapon. She stressed that he should get help for his mental health condition.
According to Fulton’s lawsuit, Weston is being sued for assault and battery. Meanwhile, Cage is being sued for negligence.
In her lawsuit, Fulton claimed that Cage was aware of Weston’s mental and psychological troubles, but enabled his behavior by providing financial support. Moreover, she also stated that Cage not only bought an apartment for Weston near his residence but also bailed him out of prison and drank with him.
The Arcadian star’s legal team called the lawsuit “frivolous and “absurd.” Moreover, in a statement, Cage’s lawyer Brian Wolf stressed that Cage was not responsible for his son’s actions.
“Weston Coppola is a 34-year-old man,” he said. “Mr Cage does not control Weston’s behavior in any manner and is not responsible for Weston’s alleged assault of his mother.” (via BBC News)
This is not Fulton’s first lawsuit against Cage. Back in 2009, she filed a suit over a financial dispute. Here, she alleged that he owed her $13 million. She also accused the 61-year-old actor of going back on his promise to purchase a house for her at Hancock Park. This case was however settled on undisclosed terms in 2011.
